Boulder Valley Humane Society

Adopting a pet is an exciting experience. Sadly in places like Boulder, Colorado people go through the process of adopting a pet without fully understanding the responsibility they are undertaking. This can result in a high return rate of adopted animals.

In an attempt to avoid this emotionally taxing process, for both the animal and the human, we wanted to focus on responsibility upfront. We created informational pamphlets with details about how to best take care of the new adoptee, using pathos to instill a strong sense of responsibility. Enclosed was a set of pet tags, one for the pet and one for the owner, with a short statement about how grateful the new pet is and how important it is to always be aware of their needs.

Adding this deliverable to the process of adoption at the Boulder Valley Humane Society helped shape a more educated community based around pet adoption. Employees stated that these materials were well-received by those adopting.
